That's, by my measurements, 3-5 yards. 50 yards is 1.5 football fields.

I always like to think in home defense= shotgun, handguns can swap hands very easily. But if you kick in my door and I'm awakened, you'll def be seeing laser. If there's 2+ intruders, the pistol gets shoved in the rear waistband and Mr. Moss 500 18.5 gets a swift pump

As for the question, for home protection i prefer shotguns as do many. Bigger spread and lower risk of over penetration. For any real distance a shotgun would be near useless against pistol/rifle or anything with a rifled bore and a slug. Shots in the 50-100 yard range are possible but just because a case can be found doesn't mean its common. Any shotgun reliably plucking off dear at 100 yards probably has a rifled bore and is shooting slugs, which pretty much makes it a huge rifle.

Just go get you a .50 cal and be done with it. Shoot I don't wait for them to get in my house, if I see someone acting odd 1,200 yards away, I'm taking him/her out.

1,200 yards is well over a half a mile.

i have a moss. 500 and it will stop who ever i want but i can only shoot the sob 6 times with it. would be nasty none the less. but with my 9mm im going to drop 17 bullest in there bug eyed bastard ***.... that will be fun and nasty. ... simply put shotgun or hand gun it doesnt matter unless there are kids or other things you have to consider. small kids i say hand gun so you can put in safe and keep them away, no kids just SMART adults then get a shotgun, and **** the pumps just get a auto shotgun no pumping just pull the trigger...

i like just having a little .25 ready at night. I do have a shotgun in the closet and an old *** rifle downstairs locked up but a couple of quick shots with a .25 and anyone will run from even just that. I just worry someone I know would sneak in drunk just wanting to crash on the couch and would not want to shoot them dead with a bazooka.

Either a shotgun with double 00 buck or a pistol with hollow tip rounds is great for home defense. But either one you want to be careful and check ur backgrounds. You have to know what possibly might be behind the wall thats behind an intruder and even behind that wall. Drywall will not stop a bullet and im sure you rather get taken for a lot of money worth of shit than shoot ur wife, daughter, son, mother, father etc cus you miss and put a round through a wall and hit one of them. Thats my only advisement. Got a buddy that had a guy break into his house he shot twice with a .40cal full metal jackets missed and hit his wife in the stomach in the other room. She lived but none the less my buddy still gets bothered by the fact he almost killed his wife. SO WATCH UR BACKGROUNDS, KNOW YOUR HOUSE!!!
