so ive been reading and arguing with friends about shotguns and handguns. there saying a shotgun is worthless shooting over 30ish yards and handguns are way better for home defense. my question is with the right choke, the shotgun should easly take someone out at 50yards? im trying to learn more about different rounds and whats better for what

I don't know about your house, but my room isn't 50 yards long. I am not shooting for distance in a home invasion.

Depends on the type of shot in the shogun, but 50 is pushing it either way.

a shotgun could kill someone at 50 yards but for home defense you won't be shooting more than 10 yards which makes you and your friends arguments completely ridiculous

"when matched with my 835 moss. and federal 3 1/2 2oz #5's turkey loads I have shot alot of turkeys with this choke tube my longest shot at 75 yards. I even use this same choke when I am deer hunting with 00 buck and killed deer as far as 110 yards away. I have had the same choke tube for four years and still shoots a good pattern. Depends.

If you kick in my door and coming down the hall, I will be shooting a shotgun at you. There is less chance of missing with a shotgun versus a handgun.

An average room is between 8 feet to 15 feet from one end to the other.

That's, by my measurements, 3-5 yards. 50 yards is 1.5 football fields.
