Question about Gap

I was looking into getting one 12" 'supersub'. I know Fi is the boner and I already own the SSD and the Q. But when talking about the BTL, people say the gap is tight. What does that mean to me? From the discussions, it looks like a bad thing. Not a design flaw, persay, but something I should be concerned about in bass race or something.

We didn't run into any problems pounding it with ~4kw... launching various object out of the port... blowing off Chad's hat... then slamming it with 10kw. I wouldn't worry about it... in fact, a tight gap (to a point) helps with heat dissipation. It means less air between the coil and the heat conductive steel around it. If it's TOO tight then the coil can expand and rub the gap -- but FI does not appear to have this problem.
