question about fusing an amp

kinda dumb, but i've heard different things on this.

for an amp that has on board fusing, like a class a/b for your mids for example, with 2 30w fuses or whatever the case is, do you still fuse the power wire like any amp? wouldnt that overfuse the amp, or no? if so, what size ANL fuse would you use?

How do you "overfuse"? I'll just answer that. You don't. There is no such thing. Anyways, the fuse needs to be within 18" of the battery. It's not there to protect the amp. It's there to keep the power wire from becoming red hot in the event of a dead short and burning your car to the ground.

If the amp has onboard fusing, you fuse for the wire not the amp. Like nuthugger said, those fuses in your amp won't protect your battery if your power wire shorts out somehow. You'll end up burning your car to the ground.

thats what i thought, but like i said, i'd heard different things regarding this before.

and by overfusing, i mean like the idiots that blow a fuse (and they dont know why it blew) and they just up the fuse size until it stops blowing.. thats what i consider "over-fused" .. lol
