question about fiberglass enclosure.

Im planning on making a fiberglass box for two 10's and two 12's. I was wondering about how the fiberglass is actual attached to the wooden bottom and back. what stops it from just pulling off. I hope this doesnt sound stupid. I know that you staple the first sheet of material to the box after stretching it over everything, but is that all or does the resin bond with the wood.

the resin will bond....kinda like the screws for a wood box are only there to hold it together until the glue dries.

it should just bond to the wood....no need to wrap all the way around.

yes, generally speaking, it is a bad idea if you plan on sending the same freq. through both....if your really good with x-over points and can make them work with each other, then you the man.

i use kitty hair on the inside where the glass and the wood meet.

but on another note. don't mix sub sizes.

you can leave big area of wood uncovered, just make sure there is plenty of overlap of the glass material and the mdf.

Definitely do not mix sub sizes, 4 10" or 4 12" depending on how much room and power you have.

One more question, what would be a good resin to use? Ive been looking around and ive seen some boat resin that is really cheap( $38) for a gallon and some well over $100. Does it matter if it has wax in it?

realistically, you can do whatever you want. however, mixing sub sizes without properly corssing them over will result in very poor sound quality at best. it has nothing to do with seperating them internally....seperate them by putting them in different cars would work.

as for mixing brands, i wouldn't do that either. every brand does not perform the same. i wouldn't take a 12 road gear and a 12 DD and say i'm running 2 12's....there are too many variables to consider.

bets bet, pick the sub you like best out of what you have. sell the others and buy another to match what you kept and build from there. you cant just throw different brands of different sizes together and expect something good to come out of it.

i get all my glass material from home depot it works great!!

if you have never did glass workbefore get ready!! its not going to be some day job! and if you plan on painting the finished product you better have some body work/body shop exsperiance if you plan on making it look nice.But hey you live and learn just go ahead there is a ton of do it yourself glass online.

and miss matching subs are a crazy idea i would never ever do! nor mixing 2 different size subs unless it 12 and 8's or 15's and 8's imo i would never run 10's and 12's or 10's and 8's i like running 8's with 15s for good mid bass.

If you are talking about the mounting diameter, my alpine 12 is 10.9".
