question about disconnecting battery

Alrighty, im gonna be doing some headlight wiring modifications. I just wanna double check something before i get going tomorrow though.

Theres to batteries in my truck, a battery up front, and a battery under the back seat. There is a run of 1/0 between the positive terminals on the battery, and the 2nd battery is grounded to the chassis.

The question is, with it setup this way, will i be okay just disconnecting the ground on the battery under the hood? Or do i need to remove the ground from both batteries?

You would need to unhook both grounds.

Or, if you have a fuse under the hood in the 0 gauge that goes to the back, you could remove that fuse and unhook the ground of only the main battery under the hood. This is assuming that the 0 gauge wire only carries current to the 2nd battery and serves no other purpose.

I would think you could still get a complete circuit as any electrical device would still ground to the chassis and back to the back battery, which is connected on the positive to the front.

Why not just discon the + and - up front then do your work? Then everything in the back would be isolated

thtas what i was gonna do, but i was curious as if i could get away with just the ground, much thanks

Just to clarify, simply pulling the + terminal off of the main battery is no different than leaving it there, that is if the 0 gauge wire from the 2nd battery is still connected to the terminal he pulls. He would need to somehow disconnect the 0 gauge wire from the 2nd battery.

yes, if the front + group of cables is still connected to the cable run going to the back batt they would have to be discon'd. If its just say a separate ring terminal that is separate from the main + group of cables when discon'd from the front batt it wouldn't be an issue.

Kind of hard to describe what I'm going after, but I understand what yours sayin.

pull the inline fuse to the back battery and pull the ground off the front. that leaves the rear battery all by itself. thats if the wire only goes to the battery, no where else
