I know they're pointless and weak and a second battery is better, but if electricity moves from the ground to the positive, why do capacitors go on the positive wire?

They don't. They go between positive and ground. Second batteries are usually better for car audio, but don't confuse the two. Batteries and capacitors are not the same thing and should not be used for the same purpose.

this.. probably the main reason people say caps are useless is they are misrepresented..

If you put a capacitor in series, it doesn't allow DC to pass, while AC does...in an amplifier it's known as a coupling cap.

capacitors are not pointless and weak. they are very useful and have many properties which are superior to batteries. capacitors have been used to decouple (filter ac transients) on power supplies for decades. of course you need to wire them properly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
