Question about burning dvd's

So I don't know if I am doing something wrong or what, but when I try to burn a file that is alittle over 800mb on to a dvd that is supposed to hold 4gigs, it is telling me that my file is too large and that it won't burn properly.

I am using Nero is that is a factor, it seems kinda shitty. Maybe I need a different, better program?

are you maybe using the part of the software dedicated to CD's?

last time i used nero i remember it had an option for either CD's or DVD's and you had to choose what media you were burning onto.

nero is good software. that video needs to be converted into a dvd file. nerovision converts and burns. personally, i like to convert with vso divxtodvd first, then burn with nero, but nero will do it all to make things easier.

that file will not play on alot of standalone dvd players unless you convert it first. you will be creating a vcd essentially. if your dvd player plays divx or vcd's you're fine, otherwise it won't read the disc.

i use nero 6 still. i'll use nerovision if i want to create my own menu, etc. i find it much faster and easier to convert with a seperate program, then use nero to burn it on the disc. vso divxtodvd takes about an hour to convert and is free.

nerovision will do fine though, and is easier being an all-in-one software. after you get a few burned and get the details down, you can start shrinking files to fit, burning blue ray, dual layer, etc.

you'll need both. convert with vso first. burn with final burner second.
