Question about bass coming out of my CVRs

what kind of music do you listen to?

personally, i listen to a lot of rap and hip-hop/party college music. Thus, i like to tune low because there isnt much in between lows and highs.

And for the same token, low tuning helps when i am listening to music like acoustics or rock, because the bass isnt booming (because i tune low). Instead, i have a nice, softer fadeoff into my mids.

If you listen to rap and whatnot, i'de tune low, and then worry about a sturdy set of midbass speakers. I've had great luck with CVR's tuned in the 32-35hz range. From the issues you are having, tune around 35-36hz, and you will see an improvement in higher frequencies. I wouldnt tune much higher though, because than you start to lose the musical approach to your substage.

is 37 hz a good range to give me a little more high bass and mids?

Your problem will be solved if you upgrade your midbass and midwoofers instead of concentrating solely on a subwoofer.

A good component set will fix a lot of your problem. Some Phoenix Gold RSD's, along with a decent small amp to power them or something along those lines.

If you want something really good, Focal, Image Dynamics, Rainbow, to name off a few brands.

If your box is a prefab ported box now, its probably already tuned pretty high.
