Question about bass coming out of my CVRs

I got 2 CVR 12s hooked up to a Kicker ZX750.1 amp, wired at 2 ohms. My subs play the deep bass notes good but when it comes to the mid and higher bass notes, it doesn't play those notes as good. I got the Alpine 9884 head unit and right now my subs are in a prefab ported box in a Toyota Camry. I plan on building a box soon. I used to have 2 Pioneer TS-W307D4 subs hooked up to an off brand 1600 watt amp in a prefab ported box in a Ford Explorer and a cheap $100 Pioneer head unit. I was able to hear a good balance of the bass notes with that Pioneer setup. How come right now with my CVRs, I can't hear the other bass notes as well as the deep notes? I have the bass at 80hz on my head unit. Any advice? The rest of my setup is in my signature..

I have the same thing with my type r. Hit the lows well and loud but higher bass notes are not as loud. I've had a 1.2 cube prefab sealed and now a built ported box 2 cube at 32hz what many people recommend it to be, everything overall was louder but the highs still didn't hit as hard as lower bass notes. I'd say anything higher than 50hz is just totally down hill.

cool I thought I was the only one with this problem. Did you build your own box?

It's called a subwoofer for a reason. Tuning at 32 hz overall is low tuning. Your box is making your sub's peak frequency (about) 32hz, and then it has a fadeoff from there out in both directions on the frequency chain.

Tune higher, it'll player higher, but then lose the lows. Tune lower, itll play lower, but you will lose the highs.

With my stereos, i tune low, and set my low pass filter for my subs at 60hz. Get a nice speakerstage that can play from 60hz on up nicely and your set.

what's a good subwoofer box freq. that plays a good balance of lows and highs?

what he said!! bro was it you i sent the box design to about three weeks ago?

more so than the subs themselves. Its all in the box!
You also can't forget about the vehicle a subwoofer enclosure is installed in. I usually will build two or three enclosures before I give up on a particular subwoofer. In fact, I need to build a test enclosure right now:crap:

what kind of music do you listen to?

personally, i listen to a lot of rap and hip-hop/party college music. Thus, i like to tune low because there isnt much in between lows and highs.

And for the same token, low tuning helps when i am listening to music like acoustics or rock, because the bass isnt booming (because i tune low). Instead, i have a nice, softer fadeoff into my mids.

If you listen to rap and whatnot, i'de tune low, and then worry about a sturdy set of midbass speakers. I've had great luck with CVR's tuned in the 32-35hz range. From the issues you are having, tune around 35-36hz, and you will see an improvement in higher frequencies. I wouldnt tune much higher though, because than you start to lose the musical approach to your substage.
