Question About Amplifiers.

Im new to the car audio thing. But there's 1 thing i want to get clear. Is it better to have an amplifier that has more power then your subwoofer or is it the other way around?

if you have more power than the sub ,you can always dial the gains back to get the power you need

Would it hurt if i went way over the power of the sub? Say if the sub is 400 watt rms and the amp is 1000 watt rms or more

depends on the sub. some subs can handle more than they say, some less than they say. so just look on here for reviews of whatever sub or amp your looking to get.. u can get a lot of help here and by watching youtube videos to give you an idea of what subs or amps can produce.

that would depend on the sub because some subwoofers are underrated, but just be careful set your gains with a dmm and you'll be good, subwoofers sound the best within their rms rating and in the right enclosure and depending on what sub it is you can increase the amount of power it will be getting.

that depends on the subs ,amp and enclosure .just to many variables to consider. but like already said ,if you buy a good amp and good subs most likely they may be underated and take more power ,and the amp may produce more power than rated
