question about amp wiring

I bought a car with a system already installed and the previous owner is grounding the amp on the negative battery terminal. From what i was told this was not correct and to ground the amp to chaise of the car? I have not did a stereo install in over 10 years so wanted to check if this is OK to leave as-is or if i should re-ground it to another spot on the car that is not the negative terminal on the battery.

ok that is what i though and in this case the car has the battery in the trunk so its really easy to just wire it there. I guess when i did this years ago the battery was under the hood so it was easier to just ground to the chaise in the trunk so you didn't have to run another cable up to the battery. Thanks for the confirmation.
