Question about Alpine Amps

I was told that when using the Alpine MRV-F345 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14928

with an Alpine radio that it is to be plugged into the ai-net port and that you can't have your ipod and amp hooked up to the reciever without buying extra equipment. Now the person that told me this has an older Alpine HU then me, I have the 9885. Would this be still not be possible to have both hooked up?
