For instance, his "high vent mass, off-axis bass reflex" enclosure. Also known as a ported box with the port and sub on different sides.

I've heard good and bad things about his designs. Some work well, some fail miserably.

Wow. His prices are pretty ridiculous. There is only so much you can do (design wise) for a plain ported box, and nothing that he does will make it sound that much better. If he was doing a 4th order or horn loaded I could see that it would be expensive. But no where near $600.

Honda, if your looking for a great box for a good price let me know.

I'm gettin about fed up with the wait in turn around time. If anyone was decent enough in designing a nice 4th order I would have already excersiced that option, but so far, all the designs I have gotten from members were not to my likings.

This....so many times ive seen in a description of his about an enclosure, that was overworded so much it was ridiculous....

Friend of mine bought a design from him for a pair of 15" subs, he overexplained the design, but for all purposes, it was a simple ported box.

Smart dude, not knocking that about him, but a bit overhyped IMO.

I'm going to need a design com December or January. I read Fallen doesn't do designs anymore so I was considering PWK or Fisher, maybe even someone on here. It'd be for 2 12" Xcons in the trunk of my Lumina: 15"h x 31.5"w x ~28"d (external).

I think what it all comes down to, is if you're a person who can't design for themselves and is willing to pay for a design of any type (because that's largely irrelevant), then you should be okay with a rate that would reflect at least an hour of a person's time. General labor rates cover a wide gamut, say $20 to $200? A single charge of $50 doesn't seem stratospheric to me. On the other hand, I don't think anyone should be given celebrity status for designing enclosure either. Anyone with capable software who is willing to put the time and effort into learning and practicing can turn out very good results.
