pwk designs .....your opinions.

He must be right, because he knows exactly how you play your music!!!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
He is right, the guy just wasn't being smart with his equipment. Either he didn't have a subsonic filter set, or he was just flat-out overdriving his subs...if you are tearing the sub apart mechanically, then there would have been signs of driver distress. He must not have backed off the volume or just didn't care...or was trying to impress people and bottomed the sub out.

A box isn't going to kill a sub, 99.9% of the time when something gets broken it's user error.

I ran a dayton titanic 10" in a tline box from Pete, sounded great and didn't break my woofer.

Are all designs going to work as planned, no. Can people break a woofer in just about any box...yes

exactly. something must be very wrong if he tore the spider on 1.5 kw.

hmm shoulda just went with a good ole ported box then idk.

ya after spending 50 bucks on the design and 50 on materials and 100 on a recone kit. . . im kinda pissed. its my brothers set up i done for him, now its in 2 cubes 35hz and plays very well no problems. but see i also bought designs for my dd 9512 and sure the hell dont wanna f@#k it up too.

Realllllllly? Try puttin a 10 inch sud in a 5cu ft box with 30inches of port at 30 inch long and see how long it lasts on 1500rms. Then tell me the box wont hurt a sub!

It will hurt the sub only if the user allows it to continually go beyond its mechanical limits. The user has a volume know and subsonic controls

Good box designs take into account the speakers mechanical perimeters and the users listening habits and preferences. Then design an "enclosure" that functions in those conditions.

Fi btl (old style)

Sundown nightshade

Re MT

etc..

They all might take it with the CORRECT tunning. Now running some SSD's, L5's or subs like that maybe not. Its sub dependent.

He's having a hard time realizing this...I can put a RE8 in a 20ft^3 box and use a kicker warhorse for power, but I can run the sub for years without a problem. It's all about setting your stuff right and being aware of what your speakers are doing.

and you may mean knob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and to the guy above me.. I ran a 1508 in double its rec. enclosure size while overpowering it and it took it great, like I said sub dependent.

I agree totally, but would you build an enclosure for person without asking how they wanted to play it?

I ask about space, amp power, sub/port direction, and tuning...how they play their music really doesn't mean anything to me. If they don't know how to stay within the safe range of operation, then that's their fault. I just design stuff that's going to sound good and/or get loud.
