Pure Sound Quality in a single 8". Polk MOMO or Infinity Ref

I didn't build a dream system in my new Outback wagon since I just didn't have the room to spare for amps and subs. I ended up running a Pioneer 7800mp HU powering four Infinity 6012i (6.5" coax). DynaMat 10x10 squares around speakers.

Bass : Alpine M450 Mono 220watt RMS @ 4ohm / 400watts RMS @ 2ohm. Would like to keep it at 4ohms for less draw on my vehicle.

I plan to purchase only a single 8" Sub to put in a shallow truck style Qlogic sealed box. I want pure sound quality not something for an old TooShort album. I listen mainly to music like Alice&Chains,Pink Floyd,Led Zep,Bob Marley,Metallica, etc. Considering my system & music preference, what would you recommend. I like that the Infinity hits higher hz but I wasn't planning on running my sub hz that high anyway. Which do you think would sound cleaner... and any other 8" that you recommend even higher priced still shooting for all around good sound.

I like the $50 price of the ascendant audio assasin, but wonder if it will sound like crud running in a QLogic box that is .35c compared to the recommended .4c.

SoundSplinters looks **** impressive and does work well in even smaller sealed boxes but is 3x the price.

SS RL-I or RL-P, the old PPI flatcones, a Blueprint sub (if you can find one), Brahma, XXX, the Alumapro Alchemy, OZ Matrix Elite, and many other subs will MURDER those in SQ.

let us know what you're trying to spend and we'll try to guide you towards something you'd like...

also... prefabs usually aren't what i'd recommend for SQ. They're usually too small and made of poor materials... how thick is the MDF on that Qlogic?

based on the price of what he showed, i think no more than 100$?

my vote would be for a soundsplinter rl-i8, and you shouldn't be using the sub to play frequencies over ~120 hz anyway, most people set there low pass filter to ~80 hz, so how high the sub will play should not be a determining factor

^ in that price range that JL W6AE copy would probably be pretty good...
i can't remember who makes it...
now that i think about it, i think this is only availible in a 12 inch...

i know that ths Ascendant Assasin is supposed to be a nice lil SQ driver for the money...

Wow excellent responses. I wasn't set on only under 100$ but those are the standard options I saw. Let's try to keep it under $165 for the sub, I could run it at 2ohm if it was DVC so that is an option, I was thinking 4ohm would be fine since it's going to be paired up with 6.5" coax running off the deck power. The Qlogic is 5/8" MDF I think, I am no avid car stereo person but I think 3/4" is ideal right. I don't want to build a box so if you all know of a better company that has a truck/hatchback style box that is no higher then 13.5" and hopefully shallow around 8" or less at it's base then that would be great. I have a German Shepherd that uses the back trunk of my Outback so I need the box to take up as little of space as possible.

REcap : Under $165 and VERY SMALL SEALED ENCLOSURE

THANKS A TON!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I understand that logic but I was running my coax 6.5" speakers off deck power which won't provide much mid bass so I was thinking a more SQ sub would help bridge some of the gap. The sound won't be facing me though since it will be in the back wagon area behind the seat.

soundsplinter rl-i8 is looking pretty sweet, I will pretty much base alot of my choice on what you all recommend here, I don't have the means to go find these locally and listen to them so please share your opinion. THANKS.

I've got a pair in sealed boxes and they sound awesome off of ~380w a piece; great SQ driver.

Any sealed box I can order that would make the sub sound better compared to Qlogic brand boxes. 5/8" is what is used on the QLogic. I am not going to build it myself, if I can order a better one, thats fine.

Ideas?

Here are some ideas rolling around. Need your help since you all know this stuff better.

It does look like those SoundSplinter 8's look crazy. I almost just want to order one now. But.... concerns...

-if I put it in a mid quality box like Q Logic, will the 5/8" MDF greatly hurt the sound quality and if I ran it @ 2ohms w/300watts RMS would that be likely to flex the box and sound worse then say SVC sub running the 4ohm 200watt load.

So would only running 200watts for a speaker rated at 300watts rms not push it enough?

Also like the idea of less draw on my car/electrical system @ 4ohms. The amp wasn't even warm at all after a hour of regular music listening volumes today.

Another option would be the cheaper ascendant audio assassin 8". Two possible issues, SVC would only run 200watts RMS from my amp(AlpineM450) and with the woofer rated 350w RMS would that again not be ideal. Also the sealed box size is .4 and the easy to find Qlogic box is .35 so that would not be ideal as well BUT the price is 1/3 cheaper.

Remember I am running deck power to my door speakers so I really can't crank the system at insane levels, a regular store brand 8" I bet would fill the bass needs in this system. What do you recommend. Thanks so much fellas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
