properly tuning amps

properly tuning amps is my weakness. when setting the frequency level....obviously setting it according to the frequency output of the speakers is the right thing to do...but how do u do that? is the number u put it on is that the lowest frequencies it will put out and every thing bove that setting ??? please help me...thank u ..if u do not understand what i am asking i will rephrase it. thanx
