Nah. They ain't that obvious. But if you experience this enough, you become more and more aware of it until it really is obvious...

I see.... so then since you get 'targeted' by the LP guys fairly often, then it must be because you're black? It can't be for any other reason? Only because you're black?

And this is a deduction you've made, without interacting with them or asking them why they're targeting you, or anything... no confirmation of this, just your assumption.

See, this is the problem I have with many people... they assume that anything negative that happens to them is happening to them more frequently than it does to other people, and many attribute it solely to their race. Like race is the only thing that matters in such a situation.

I get discriminated against on a very regular basis, but it isn't because of my race. Well, at least I don't think it is... since I'm not a minority. You think it's possible there could be other factors? Perhaps?

Nah... race is the easiest one to blame and point the finger at, and it's also the easiest one to help the 'victim' avoid any kind of personal responsibility in the matter.

I used to like to rip a sensor sticker off something and stick it to the bottom of my shoe in these situations. makes for an easy $50 gift card when they hassle you.

I understand what you are saying, man. I take responsibility for my actions. And my appearance. It is almost asking for trouble to walk in the place, hat on backwards (or hooded), etc. But if you lived in the South for any period of time, you would know what I mean. It can be rough. Either way, you are also targeted, notwithstanding you aren't a minority. So it isn't a regional thing. It's just a wrong thing. A prejudiced thing. Evidently it is prejudging on looks or appearances. And not coming up with the correct judgment...

You're making assumptions about facts not in evidence here, sir. You need to be just as careful as those you accuse of profiling you. We all have our own tendency to prejudge... whether based on race, appearance, communication style, location, SES (socio-economic status), etc. And guess what... they may be distasteful to some, but they're also correct in some cases, as well.

Fact is, I've lived most of my life in the South, and I've experienced racial prejudice in several ways in many locations. Just because I'm not in a minority in the US or in the South doesn't mean I've never lived as a minority and I've never been treated differently (badly) because of the color of my skin. I've got quite a bit of experience in this area, so don't make the assumption that I don't know what I'm talking about just because I'm not black. This is another common fallacy in the argument many minorities use... " You're not one of us, so you don't know what it's like." That's a dangerous assumption to make about people when you don't know them well.

My point is that so-called "profiling" is usually multi-factorial, and while race may or may not have something to do with it on any given occasion, it is unfortunately very common for people to jump on racial differences as the sole or largest part of that, when the facts in evidence do not necessarily support it.

Man, you are absolutely correct. I'm so glad that even though it doesn't seem like it from this dialog, we are on the same side. Moreover, this has been intelligent discourse, rather than the mudslinging style that is common. You have provided thought-provoking statements we could all stand to take into consideration.

Thank you so much, sir.

I may or may not have stolen stuff from walmart frequently, but if i did it would be easy....only grannys at the doors in ours around here. I COULD have, or could NOT have easily just walked right out with say hypothetically 2 bags of chips, a drink, 2 subwoofers, and 2 walmart amps without paying for a thing. Possibly..... not that I ever would. or would I? :\
