hey guys,
as the title states, im having some serious problems with my Audio Control DQL-8. i hoping the experts on this site can shed some light on my situation. let me begin by explaining my setup.
headunit - stock E46 Nav
amp - JL Audio 500/5
front end - Focal 165 k2p
rear - JL Audio Stealthbox
sound processor - Audio Control DQL-8
basicly i wanted to improve the sound in my car without loosing too much trunk space and adding excess weight. i also didnt want to loose the look and feel of the oem navi headunit. i read up about how the DQL-8 can intergrate after market amps with the stock head unit and amp. i got the system installed professionly at a reputable stereo shop in my area. but, shortly after i got it installed.. i ran into several problems.
my first problem occured the next day after i got my car back. basicly, when i turned on my setup, the DQL-8 acted like it lost its programmed values. i got a reverb distortion noise as if someone took a 12v batter any shorted it to all my speakers.
i returned it to the shop where i got the work done and they imediately replaced it with another new DQL-8. they blamed the problem on the SW programmed on the DQL-8. they say that after a matter of time, the programmed values were lost on the eeprom. so, they sent my orig unit back to Audio Control to get the latest firmware updates.
so for the next month or so.. i used the the 2nd DQL-8 in my car. but.. a different problemed occured. this time instead of the reverb/shorting sounds i had before ... i got something differnt. i would loose the summed bass signals and loose control of the main DQL-8 volume control. but.. i could fix the problem myself by manually summing the master and bass settings again and the problem was fixed. this would happen about every other day.
now finally i got the orig DQL-8 back into the car. audio control claims to have fixed the problem by flashing the unit with the latest firmware. so, for 30 days or so.. i had no problems with any reverb/shorthing noises nor loosing programmed summed values.
then, finally this past friday.. it happened again. now im getting the very loud reverb/shorting sounds i use to get like from day1. i cant believe this. also what i notice is the DDC use to have blue lights, now the lights are amber. i didnt have this DDC when i first got my setup installed, i only purchased this after i got 2nd DQL-8 installed to help programming the summed values easier. im wonder if the color of the DDC screen is some type error message?
so.. im really bummed out about my setup. im hoping some of the experts on here can shed some light on this situation. im gonna contact Audio Control on monday and see if they have any answers to my problem. i think my setup is pretty straight forward and nothing fancy, but yet im running into these strange problems.
any inputs would greatly be appreciated.
thanks,
