problem with usb port?

I've got a 98 malibu with a pioneer dehp6900ub head unit in it. I've had this head unit for going on three years now. I've recently been having a lot of problems with the usb part of the unit. For instance, last night it started playing from a flash drive great then stopped playing went through the every folder to the end of the drive, started back at the beginning of the drive, then finally the sound came back at the exact second in the song that it cut out to begin with. Right now I have the flash drive directly connected to the pigtail port out the back of the unit so I could rule out the extension being the problem. The flash drive is set up exactly like pioneer wants it to be. It is formatted at FAT32 and only has music files on it the unit can read. It seems as the weather got warmer the problem got a lot worse. Any ideas as to what my problem might be?

maybe the deck just needs to be reset, I've had decks that wouldn't even read cds until after I reset them.
