Probes and SPL.

I just finally bought a car. 97' Ford Probe with 48k miles. Immaculate condition both inside and out. $3900. Now, I was doing a quick search on this site to see what others had to say about this car. I was dissapointed to hear soo many people saying the car is a bitch to get loud. What I'm looking for is daily SPL, As in loudest to the ear. 18 SX and Hifonics TX1505. What do you think I should do and what are your opinions about the car and its sounds capabilities.

well being that i drive a 626 (probes, mx-6, and 626 are all the same) i have heard lots of things about these cars. first do you have the 2.0 or the 2.5? and if you have the auto ****** look at getting a transmission cooler or kiss your ****** good bye. HO alternators are a bit on the expensive side, for what you get (160 amp for like 250 i do believe) i did buy a HO alt used a few months back from bumpngt for $100.

the thing i would like about the probes is the fact that it is a hatch back. but it also has alot of plastic interior pieces that like to vibrate. i would think that because these cars are so similar (626, probe) that the terminals on the batery have to be reversed. therefore unless you are gonna custom makes something, kinetik battery under the hood is out. i have one for my trunk (600) and i am more than likely get a 800 for uner the hood.

I have the 2.0L and it's auto. But why would I need coolant? The ****** should be fine for a looong time. So does your 626 slam? And hows the stock alternator? I have a Hifonics TX1505, Should I deff upgrade or wait and find out?

well the 2.0 with the autos (at least in the 626's) had a problem with overheating. not so much in the 2.5l engine's with the autos thought. and i hit a 142.4 with a 15"sx and an american bass 100.1 ported tuned to 35 hz. i had diming before i set my gains correctly (more conservitly) with just the kinetik 600 in the trunk.

i think the stock alt is only like 60-80 amps (cant rember off the top of my head) and it is a ***** to get at, you have to go from underneath the car and remove a crossmeber brace. i have no experiance with that hifonics amp so i dont know what the current draw would be like. i would deff. start off witht the big 3 atleast thought. to be on the safe side. but if you are gonna try to compete with it i would say get a ho alt if you got the cash.

it was getting 1000 watts, and yes that was me before i lost about 25-30 pounds and my arms got bigger (pic is from christmas 2003)

one of my boys had a DD 9515 in a probe and that thing was loud as hell....it use to flex the hatch
