Probably a really basic question...

My radio got jacked by some ******* so I wanted to save some cash and install my new one myself. I bought a HU with a wire kit and harness. I understand the wire kit adaptor (it came with a diagram), but there are two other wires coming from my car. One is a thick black wire that I think is the antenna? The other is a braided, non-insulated copper wire that doesn't have a plug, just a U to fit under a screw. Is that another ground or something? It's a '01 Saturn SL1. I don't have pictures now because I'm at work but I can get some in a few hours when I go home.

Get some pics but it does sound like you have the antenna and a ground...the ground does sound a little odd but then again it's a Saturn...what make/model of HU you got?

ground and antenna. you are correct.

you can just run your ground from ther radio to the braided copper wire which is your ground. check to make sure you have a ground wire from your car in the plug in harness if not then you have to run ground from radio to the braided copper wire.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! I'm splicing the wire kits together now and noticed that the plug that goes into the car has three 12v+ ignition wires... wtf? The side that goes into the back of the HU has one. Are all three of those lines going to be live? Should I use one and just seal off the other two?

Ok, I broke out my multimeter and found that only one of those wires is live... that sound right to y'all?
