Prime or punch?

I blew out my sub and I'm looking for a replacement. I am looking at the Rockford Fosgate P3D4-10. I was comparing it to the one I blew out (Rockford Fosgate R2D4-10). I was looking at the SPL and RMS ratings to determine how loud they could get.

P3d4-10: SPL=82dB RMS=500~27dB =109dB

R2D4-10: SPL=86dB RMS=250~24dB =110dB

If I'm doing the math right, the P3D4 is actually a bit lower than the other.

The R2D4 is priced at $69.99 While the P3D4 is $229.99

What could make the other sub cost so much more?

I did find a few points that would affect the cost, but I'm not sure if there's more to it that I'm not seeing. I noticed the Frequency response is 26 on the P3D4 and 45 on the R2D4, the materials they use on the P3D4 are also better. I was wondering if maybe the level of distortion might be less too. But how can you figure that out? I checked the Manual and can't find anything referring to THD or S/NR.

Are the Punch series woofers really much better than the Prime and are they really worth the extra money?

Here's some links for the R2 and the p3. You must be looking at Crutchfield... These are 2 different subwoofers as well. The p3 is rated for double the watts of the R2. I guess you'd say the R2 is their "entry level" and the p3 is their "middle of the road" sub. As these guys have mentioned there are a lot of other decent 10" subs out there that are priced around the same as the p3 (130 bucks for so) that will shit all over them. My wife had a p3 15" in her minivan for about a year in a crappy prefab ported box that performed really well! So I kind of have a soft spot for RF.

I've never seen the Amazon Warehouse deals... Hmmm...
you'll learn to love them. Found an RF R2 Shallow mount for $27 shipped! Didn't need it but hey it was $27 shipped! And the guy who showed me snagged a DB Drive K7 12" for $55 shipped which is a KILLER deal because they retail for like $180 new. I look through the warehouse deals every other day.

I'm not opposed to other brands, I just heard RF was a good brand. The prices are taken from the RF website. I would either buy them from amazon or ebay most likely. I was just curious why they would charge three times as much for the P3 when it doesn't seem to be any better than the one I already had.

I've never owned a sub or an amp and I'm trying to understand what I'm doing. I just installed the R2 in March and blew it out just last week. I tried finding out before how to set the gains on the amp but everyone just said to set it by ear. Well, that worked out well. After the sub blew, I found out how to tune the amp properly with a DMM. I have a cheap sub installed now and it works, but it's nothing great.

I've seen a few other brands that boast that they have 91 or higher SPL and can handle 500 RMS on top of that for around $50. This sounds like it would be extremely loud, but how good will the quality of the sound be? It sounds like way to good a deal to be true at such a low price.

There are plenty of other brands that will give you nice deep bass and sound good doing it. I messaged you a few you should look into.

When something is cheap and its specs are better then a more expensive, known to be good woofer they are BS. By the way, I would not take a new RF product if it was given to me.
depends on the model number, they still got good stuff just retarded prices on the good stuff...

I will definitely take a look at those, thank you.

I'm still kind of confused. Both subs I mentioned seem to work out to be just as loud as each other. Is there a way to tell how loud a sub will be, besides looking at the SPL and RMS?

Motor force, coil, spiders, ect. Specs they don't tell you. There is way more then listed specs when it comes to output
