prices for custom built boxes

Is $125 a good price for a local audio shop to build me a box for my G5s? I wanna put them in a ported box and have the dimensions needed and know how to build the box but I don't have any of the tools on hand here at college. The price I was quoted seems a little much, but this is a custom job.I really need to get the subs out of the sealed prefab they are in.

for a custom box, from a shop, if it is properly done, that is a very good price.

A ported box for a pair of g5 12's is going to take around a sheet of MDF, if not a little more. It would cost them around half of that to build/carpet the box.

Make sure they dont cheap out and use 1/2 wood though.

^^^ make sure they use 3/4" mdf or birch. They might try to skimp you and use 1/2", dont let them. As far as the price, it seems very good

$125 for a 2 12 box?

just my opinion...but DO NOT go to the lowest bidder. especially a bidder that low. unless the shop is building a generic box, hurting for business, or giving u a buddy deal....i would pass. usually that low a bid means low quality.

just throwing this out there, but i charge 180 to 250 for 2-12 boxes. depending on design and finish....no generic BS from me.

you get what you pay for!!!

that $180-250 range is more the norm!!

i paid $200 for 2cft for (2) 8w7's, but then again I got birch, double baffel, 45 corners, countersunk, and fiberglass reisn coating

there several guys on here that can build you a very nice high quality box

Let me know if your looking for one, I am actually opening up a website soon as well. I have tons of pictures of my work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Professional shops wouldn’t normally build a sub enclosure for 125.00

200.00 is the more normal starting point

What is troubling, someone thinking 125.00 was a hi-price

but if you look he was asking he has plans, and only has 8 posts.. it is a good deal if they use the right materials, if they throw it together... you waste $125 and have to start over...
