Premier DEX P1R question

This is an old HU, but I have a working one, but don't have the timing mic. Pioneer wants $45 for the mic, but I'm wondering if I can go to Radio Shack and buy one for cheaper. Does it matter? Does anyone use this unit, and tried this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had that unit...loved it....

Tried using the mic one time....did not like the outcome...

Did everything by ear instead....

Got rid of it though, the dot matrix screen started losing dots, so it began to be hard to see what was going on...

The sound quality of that unit is very nice.....

I spent weeks tuning that thing lots of little goodies ...hated the "pro" switch hidden on back/top.
