I'm looking at getting this sub and running it off of a Powerbass 1100.5(sub 500@2-ohms). I'm looking at the effiiciency of the sub and I think I would need more than 500 watts. The sub has an rms of 1000wtts but it's dual 4-ohms and I'm not looking to spend alot on an amp.

Based on specs will I be fine with only 500watts?

Am I wrong by saying the higher the efficiency, the less power is needed for maximum performance from a subwoofer?

You are correct so long as you remember to factor in the efficiency of the subwoofer/enclosure combo, not just the raw speaker itself. Look up Hoffman's Iron Law for more specifics on the subject.

eff of 81 wow low

you need that sub close to max power to get any eff out of it really.

and since its a 2000w max 1000w rms sub 500w really would be holding it back more so if in a sealed enclosure

A premature look would suggest that this sub would work in small enclosures but in order for a deep bass response, higher power would be needed, hence the 1000wrms. So if I'm to stick with the 500wrms, I'll have to find the optimum enclosure size that would give me the sound I'm looking for.

The efficiency of this sub is alittle clearer now after the research but now I'm even more curious about my potential selection. This sub doesn't strike me as an SPL sub but what do I know....I didn't even know of Hoffman's Iron Law.
