Pre-fab box question

I have two 12" Alpine Type R's which I just bought on Etronics.com last week, and plan to put them in a box with my Hifonics amp. I wasn't sure whether to go ported or sealed, but the salesman at a high end audio shop told me Type R's sound better in a sealed enclosure, so my mind is pretty much set now.

He showed me a simple dual 12"sealed enclosure which they sell for $150, expensive, most likely. But I've been hearing on the forum that all pre-fab boxes aren't as good as having one custom built? I doubt it really matters, right? Just as long as I keep the volume to .8-1.0 ft^3 per chamber right?

http://www.thezeb.com has some nice SubZone boxes... sealed or ported.

a sealed box is so easy to make. you do know how to glue pieces of wood together right?

prefabs usually are nowhere near as well constructed as a custom built enclosure. Lots of them will use 5/8" particle board. 3/4" MDF is a MUCH better material.

subzone makes decent pre fab. They still need a little care when you get them though. Caulking the inside, spraying the inside with undercoating.

Building yourself is always the best way to go though!
