I own a time share and I have two very good friends from High School who live in New Orleans. Financially I am worried, but personally I am scare shitless for my friends.

word, this hurricane is just gigantic. i think my mom was telling me there only been 5 hurricanes of this level in the past century is this true?

Camille that hit almost the same area in 1969 was a Cat5 too

and they showed a pic of it super imposed over a map of AZ... it was about the same size

There have only been three other cat 5 hurricanes to hit the us...

1935 - Unnamed - Florida Keys

1969 - Camille - Mississippi

1992 - Andrew - Miami Dade

There have only been 23 known to have reached this strength until today.

This must set a record for the earliest storm of this intensity in the season, though...having a major storm like this make landfall in August is pretty rare, I would think.

this is actually the peek of the hurricane season

late july up to early sept

looks pretty bad for ALL of us...gas prices are goin to sore up to like at least $3.00 a gallon...who knows how long that will last...

I agree, I have family in Jackson, MS and they are evacuating them as well.
