Power Wire to Amps

I am Currently running one 400 watt max amp connected to sub with a 600 watt max amp connected to 6x9's. What sort of power wire do i really need? I am having trouble with dimming headlights and are about to do the big 3. I noticed my power wire to the amps is small. I was wondering if this small power wire to the amps could cause headlight dimming?

quality 8ga would be sufficient, but nothing is wrong with 4ga

That should be a max of 500wrms, how long is the distance from the amps to the battery?
