Power Wire size compared to ground question

if anyone would like to shed some light on this, all is appreciated. okay i am running a 4 channel amp and a mono amp. from the battery i am running 1/0 power wire into a distribution block which is two outputs of 4 gauge. each 4 gauge going into each amp respectively.

i will be running two separate grounds for each amp.

question, should i run 4 gauge grounds? i have been told in the past that its best to match the gauge wire of the power & ground. But seeing that what is actually making contact with the amps will be 4 gauge power wire, should i match that with 4 gauge ground? or use 1/0 as grounds?

another idea that was floating in my mind was getting a ground distribution block and run the two 4 gauge grounds from the amp into the block and the output would be one 1/0 ground. not sure if its a good idea to ground two amps with 1 ground though.

some input would be greatly appreciated thanks

Why run 2 grounds for each amp?

it would be 1 ground for each amp. not 2 grounds for each amp.

Just match whatever power gauge is going to the amps.4 gauge will be fine.as far as a ground distribution that will work also.just try to keep ground wires as short as possible

You would be better off running two 6in 4 gauge grounds than running a 0 gauge distribution into two 6in grounds. But I you only have 4 gauge going into the amp, than you only need 4 gauge coming out. Basically if I understand this right, even if you ran 0 gauge into the amp with 4 gauge grounds, you would have the same power as running 4 gauge power to the amp and 4 gauge grounds.

thanks for the feedback guys. i will just run a ground distribution block with 1/0 grounding to the chassis and the other 4 gauge going to the amps. thanks for the input.

the wallet friendly way would be running two 4 gauge grounds.
