Power ratings, true or not?

I didn't know what to put as the title, but I just put that because... Audiobahn amps are rated at... 17v right? Well, my friend charged his batt n gave the amp 17 v for about an hour and the system didn't even sound NEARLY as good as the xtant x1001 with only 12 volts of power... I think that's sad, when an amp at 2 ohm is rated at 1000 watts (but ran at 1 ohm) and the other is at 2400 and that amp can't sound even close to the other.

Now, to say, what amp should I choose for high wattage but try to stay cheap. I thinking around... 2000 watts or around there. Me and my friend are going to buy 2 MTX thunder 1501d's for 500$, would that be a good buy or should I buy an orion 2500d online?

are you sure the amp is rated at 17v? that sounds rather high....

btw what are you going to do with the audiobahn amp now?

What battery does your friend have that he can charge to 17V???

You can charge a "12 volt" batt to 17.0 vdc float... it's just not stable there, nor is it effiecient at holding voltage level.

Now, wether or not his asshat friend actually did it.... is another story.
