Power Question

If I run a 1200 (rms) watt amp on 2 12 inch 600 watt(rms) dvc subs, will I have to add anything to my stock electrical system? I don't plan on entering contests or anything, or rumbling the neighborhood. (I want the power there in case I ever do want to get obnoxious though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

But for everyday listening, will I need to add a cap, or different alternator etc?

I know the lights will dim, but I don't want my car to stall or something at a red light.

Depends on the Ampere the alternator puts out. A 60A alternator can handle maximum 400w without draining the battery. I'm not sure on the exact formula, but I would imagine a 1200w would require atleast an 80A - 100A alternator, maybe even as high as 140A!

What type of vehicle do you drive?

I drive a 2001 Buic Lesabre.
Will almost definately be fine. If it were a Pre-1994 vehicle you might have needed an upgrade. Just make sure to find out the ampere rating to be on the safe side. 80A should be adequate enough for newer vehicles.

Thank you for your replies!

I was thinking about replacing the stock batt just to be on the safe side. A friend of mine is offering to sell me a 1 year old Stinger Sp1000 for $90.

Is that a good deal?
