as these guys mentioned a alternator upgrade would be best (though exspensive as the roman cathlolic church) and the big three is also uber important (DO IT do it)

but from experience of not being able to upgrade the alt and haveing upgraded the big 3 (DO IT do it) the 2nd battery will help out FAR FAR FAR FAR greater than ay cap....... trust me....trust us......

maybe it's me but why would a 2nd battery help? the alt is already having voltage problems, just charging 1 battery, so how is making the alt charge 2 batteries gonna help it?

Indeed, someone school us a little on 12V electrical if we are wrong, and a cap would do the same thing....

And I think that you are being very niave, you want something so bad but you will not do what really needs to be done, why? Pricing? Restrcictions in a certain competition bracket, space issue, what? We can help with nearly anything, but not if you are unwilling to listen.

well it surely doesnt HELP the alt. in fact it'll wear down on the alt . BUT you're already outting strain on the alt. as is with a high power system..so a lil more stress wont kill it...i ahve a 110amp alt. and with the 2 batteries it works fine, i have my alt checked every few months and it's still kickin strong. it's not the BEST option but of the 2 optiosn mentioned addin the 2nd battery will be the best.....

also every few weeks it wouldnthelp to put the 2 batteries ona trickle charge...seems to help

Well his electrical system is already suffering, so adding something else that needed to be maintained by the alternator would be a no no if he was looking to improve electrical performance.

if cost is an issue on an alt, consider a 2nd battery (you'd want a good one) would set you back almost $200 for say an optima yellowtop d31. then the extra wiring, and fuse holder, and relay/isolator and you have almost $250 invested, when you can get a 200 amp ho alt for $300-350. again we have to know the reason for no HO alt. also i don't understand why the big 3 is out of the question?

im not trying to go against everyone here so dont get me wrong. thats just an oppinion. you see....for me it would be a money issue. and i wouldnt be able to aforrd a new battery then find out i have to upgrade alternators to.

so why spend the money on a cap that will do nothing as well? plus the original thread starter wanted a 5 farad cap which isn't cheap.
