postive negative finding the right one

the original wires in my car for the speakers are all different colors, i dont know which is positve and which is negative, how can i find out which is the right one, i just recently got a digital multi meter but am still figuring it out, if there is a way i can use that to find my postive that will help?

what year, and model car is it?

take a 9v battery and touch the leads to each side and watch the speaker, if they are u will figure out which one is which one when the speaker cone moves outward

if you look up the wire harness for your vehicle it may show it. that's how i figured out my s-10. the wire harness wiring guide was posted right on ebay.

hmmmm...never used a 9v battery to test. I always use a AA or AAA. but anyway I guess if you are taking the speakers out it doesn't matter anyway. If you are taking the speakers out cut off the speaker wire from the actual speaker about 2 inches back. Then leave the wires connected to the speaker and touch one wire to the positive and one to the negative. If the speaker moves out the one you have touching the positive side of the battery is the positive. If it moves in the one you have on the negative side is the positive. confusing enough? LOL

yeh i really dont wana pull my H/U out if i dont have to, i have looked in my manual, i thought there would be a way to hook the multi meter up to the wires and see which one was which

none of my vehicles have ever been that way, but i've seen house speakers where the + terminal is bigger than the negative. it's possible.
