Possible Wiring Problem?

Hi, I have:

Alpine Cdm-7861 HU

Crunch Amp (200 watt rating)

Speakers (integra rs) stock

I ran the:

RCA's from the HU

REM from the HU

12v from the battery

Groundwire from chassis

... all into my amp

Problem:

The amp turns on (ON light powers up) ONLY when I turn on the radio.

I tried playing a CD and the amp's power light shuts off whenever I even switch to CD mode.

Solution?:

Pay to have my wiring professionally checked because this was an amatuer set-up? But then, why does the amp work fine when I use the radio; and not CD? HU problem?

You tell me, thanks.

Sounds like something internal inside the deck, sounds like the remote wire voltage is dropping when selecting CD. If you have another deck you can switch them to see if the same problem occurs on the other deck.

I figured, since the deck worked perfectly w/ the amp/sub when using the radio. It had to be my head unit, which I bought used.

Yes, the REM power dropped whenever i changed the source to CD. I ran a small line from the 12v to the REM port on the amp. It powered up, however, I don't have control of the amp's on/off unless I get disconnect a wire manually. The head unit would just leech power from the battery unless I install a switch or something.

Sounds like you chose the power antenna wire instead of the remote from the HU. That one will be active only with the radio.
Hey, I went ahead and checked the wiring. You were right, the antenna power wire was hooked, I switched it w/ the REM and it works perfectly. Now the antenna doesn't go up when I play a cd. Its perfect, thanks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
