Possible Voltage Drop Problem???

I recently just purchased a JL Audio JX1000.1D amp to run my Sundown Audio SA-12 because I wanted more power, the problem is when I turn the bass up the amp goes into protect mode after a minute or two. I only have the gain up a third of the way so I dont understand why this is happening. Before this I had an MB quart 600 watt rms amp and I would have the gain up all the way without any issues. My stock alternator puts out 160amps and I dont have any other amplifers installed. I also have already done the big three with 4 gauge wire

put a multimeter on the amp positive terminal and negative terminal on DC volts and run the system until it protects, tell us what the voltage looks like
