I've very new at this. Hello all. Nice community you have here.

Now for my annoying noob questions.

Is it possible to get a good quality amp, powerful enough for a sd2.5 for less than $150?

I've been searching around and doing research, but getting tired of clicking on links to find all the good amps are out of my price range. I have $300 for an amp and a sub. $150 is going towards sd2.5 and I have $150 for an amp to hopefully power it.

I was looking at the Profile California AP1000M. I've read mixed reviews on Profiles and alot of other amps, but I know they're not the best but what's good for a $150 budget?

Also would that amp be ok with the sd2.5 in a ported box? I thought I read you should have a subsonic filter on amp with a ported box?

Any other help or recommendations would be appreciated. Will be searching around here in the meantime.

Thanks all

Well me being a dumb@$$ noob I didn't post any specs for speakers. For some reason I always decide to post when it's late as hell and I'm tired as hell.

sd2.5

RMS = 500W

Peak = 1000W

Anyone. I've been looking around, but one's I find that are around $100 and 500W RMS people tell me to avoid or can find better for cheaper. I've been searching in here for a few days, but most talked about ones seem out of my price range.

4 ohm DVC

Can't believe I forgot to post that. **** I'm an idiot.

I've been looking on ebay and trying to look in here in the classifieds.

Looked at Phoenix Gold, Profile, Hifonics and a few other cheap amps. Half of the posts I read those are good amps for the price, the other half say they are crap and to save up more. Problem is that's all the money I have right now and would like to get up and running atleast with something. Thanks for reply

Yeah that's what I've found so far. One of the only 500W RMS for around $100.

I'm piecing this system together since I'm pretty tight on money. Buying the sd2.5 12" probably Wednesday. Hopefully have enough left over this week to get amp, if not I'll be waiting till end of July for student loan (gotta love those). If I have to wait till July I can probably be a big baller and go to a whooping $200 for an amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

I'm not sure if that amp will do rated Watts, but I'm hoping it'll atleast do 400W.

Hard to say since I've heard both good and bad about profile.

Been researching for a few weeks now and it's finally coming down to it. By the end of the week I'll be ordering my Sub and Amp.

Thanks for help

I've owned several California-series Profile amps and never had the first problem out of any of them.

Matter of fact, the last two I ever owned, a 400SX and a 440SX are both still running in the pickup of the fella I sold them to and that happened around 4 years ago now.

Profile's really tough to beat for power on a budget. Yes, they're overrated somewhat but not hugely - certainly not to the same margin of error that you would expect from like a Boss or a Pyramid amp. If it is rated for 500w @ 2 Ohms then reasonably expect 400-450w of actual output.

MillionBuy is a good source for them as is eBay (look at a seller with the username barneyselectronics....he usually has a ton of Profile gear in stock and ships lightning quick. I've dealt with him personally and he doesn't fool around. Once he gets paid your gear ships out like the next business day. He's no joke of an eBayer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )

If you wouldn't mind paying retail and you get one from Crutchfield the factory warranty on Profile amps gets extended to 3 full years. If you can find someone that is a previous Crutchfield customer (like myself or many, many others on the forum) and get them to give you a referrel code you can get $20 knocked off of the retail price via Crutchfield to make paying retail a bit easier to swallow. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Edit:

The AP1000M via Crutchfield is $160. With someone to give you a referrel code that would make it $140 which still qualifies for free shipping and would have a full 36 months of valid warranty.

Ask anyone who has dealt with Crutchfield before. Their customer service is likely the best in the business. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

LMAO first off let me say I love that sig.

Second let me say WOW and a big thanks. I actually have one on ebay from barney bookmarked. And wow 3 years warranty, that's nice. That's about $20 a year in comparison to $104 total from barney for factory 1 year.

I saw that it got quite a few good reviews at crutch. So I guess my question is, will I really need the extra warranty for the extra $40? I'm tight on money, but if you guys really think it's worth it (speaking as If can get a referral code first off), then I'd probably go for crutch.

But it only being $100 is tempting also as it give it more of the well it was only $100.

lol what to do. Guess it seems to be decided I will be getting that amp. Guess it all depends what I end up with this week. If I have enough I'll go with crutch, if not I'll go with barney. Or I'll see what's ending on ebay this weekend when I get paid.

Thank you much for help and information. It is much appreciated.

I feel quite a bit better now about purchasing a Profile amp.

Will you need the 3 years of warranty?

Well - under optimal circumstances, no. Hopefully the amp will never give you any trouble.

But it will be nice to know that should the amp go bad say......34 months into ownership.....that all you have to do is make a phone call and have whatever Crutchfield rep answers the phone pull your original order invoice and go, "Oh! Yes sir! I show right here that your amp is still covered under warranty, Here's your RA number (Return Authorization //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif) and we'll be looking for you to send that back to us so that we can either get it repaired or replace it for you whichever option is more expedient!"

Knowing that Crutch pays for shipping both ways on warranty returns/repairs is a nice touch as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And thanks for the comment about my signature. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I went to our local comedy club one evening and one of the guys performing that night was selling shirts with that across the back. I liked it enough to come home and make a version of it in Paint just so I could use it in my posting signature here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Yeah I'm still looking at that amp, but I noticed last night that it was class a/b.

I really want a class D don't I? I know it doesn't have the same warranty but I saw the KENWOOD KAC-9102D for about same price as Profile. It did come with a one year warranty.

The sd2.5 12" 4ohm DVC is rated at 500 RMS. I have been told it'll take more than that though. Up to about 750 from what I hear. Can anyone confirm that? I figured even if it was overrated it'll probably still push out plenty of power for those speakers. Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, ideas? I have heard the Kenwoods get hot, but it was only by a few people.

This makes it difficult again.

Kenwood Profile

Class D A

RMS@4 500 310

RMS@2 850 500

They both seem to have alot of similar features also.

Seems like a easy choice: Kenwood, class D, more power, same features, -2 year warranty though.

But I don't know Shit about this stuff.

What would you guys do? Also does anyone have any experience with the audioque sd2.5 12", or any Audioque Sub?

Thanks
