Possible Damage to Speakers?

Well... I have the $300 Pioneer Premier comps and I did something stupid today. I was showing off to my friends and was gonna play a crazy bass song for em. "Beam Me Up" if you guys know of it. So I started cranking it... no bass. I knew it gets loud so I kept going higher. Safe to say, I REALLY cranked the volume louder than I ever did before and found out I had my subs turned down to 0. Once I reached a volume level of 34 on my HU, my Mids farted when the bass from the song hit its lowest note. I freaked and quickly turned it down.

I recently had a shop put some spacers in to fit my bigger comp speakers into my door panel.

Now my questions to you guys are this...

1) Could it have been my mids touching the back of the casing on my car door when the note hit? It was an extremely low sub note.

2) Are my speakers damaged now? They sound awesome all the way up to 32, which is about 90% my max volume the HU will possibly go. Once I hit 34, I heard the loud fart noise. Is this just cause I was putting too much power to them? My one friend said that they are probably damaged but he doesn't really know anything about speakers.

3) Will setting crossovers prevent this in the future? My mids seem to play bass as well.... The same freq ranges as my sub but a lot softer.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm freakin out and I hope they aren't damaged.

Set your HPF to ~80hz.

Most likely no damage to the speakers, you were just overpowering them for a little bit. As long as they still sound OK on the correct volume level, don't worry about it.

x2.....speakers most likely bottomed out. You MIDS should not be playing LOW frequencies and like already stated use a hpf around 80hz at 12 db slope

for some reason my mids make that sound only when i play that fn song, i know its weird but i noticed it whnevr i play that song it has a weird sweep i think

So mids aren't supposed to bump like a sub at all? I'm glad they are not damaged though.

Guys... I'm serious. Download Beam Me Up by Tay Dizm. CRAZY bass for a song...

Makes A Milli sound like tweets.

this is an extremly hard to answer question

we cant see how they are mounted

what your amps gains are set at

what the HU settings are

or what noise you are talking about

take it to someone who knows whats up

I never got a chance to set the crossovers yet... so no.

All I know is it wasn't making this noise before and I cranked it a lot louder. I think they are blown or ripped.

They sound fine on every other song tho... this is so retarded
