Possible blown tweeter and/or crossover testing amp. How to troubleshoot?

I was continuing a thread I did long ago in the amplifier section but I just realized that it would be better if I put the meat of my post in here since it is now a speaker problem I have.

I decided to take my refurbished Kicker kx650.4 amp to Circuit City, since they are a authorized seller, and asked them to take a look at it. While the amp was hooked up to my car and after plugging and unplugging the amp many times over I heard a shreek sound coming from one of my right speakers. They turned off my radio and concluded that the amp was still messed up and advised me to call up kicker again. They gave me some info and told me that kicker shouldn't give me a hard way to go since it is under their repair warranty and the Circuit City verified a problem.

I am driving down the road and decided to turn back on my radio I noticed my sound was messed up. The left driver side speaker has no highs. I get to my house, hook up my old amp and still no highs. Took off my door panel and noticed that the tweeter is not playing at all. This is all that I need now, f#%*d up speakers .

How can I troubleshoot what is wrong with the speakers? I smelled them and they don't smell burnt. The woofer sounds ok. These are Diamond Audio 6.5 Hex components. I have a multimeter and a pack of beer.

That's a great start !!

Anyways......quick way to tell if the tweeter is blown;

Grab the DMM, set it to read resistance.

Disconnect the tweeter.

Connect the DMM to the tweeter's wire connectors.

If the reading is something like 3.X ohm or 6.X ohm, it shouldn't be blown.

I think that both the tweeter and the crossover is blown. I used the multimeter like you suggested and nothing changed on the meter, but when I tested the woofer, it went to 5-6. The terminals on the crossover for the woofer had a reading but the terminals on the tweeter did not change.

I am now pissed. I am currently disassembling my crossover to see if anything is fried. Any other suggestions besides placing a horse head at the door of Circuit City install bay?

I found a guy on here that can sell me replacement parts. For the price, I am thinking about just changing speakers altogether. What do y'all think about the pioneers TS-C720PRS? how do they compare to my diamond hex? Thanks.

I personally have never heard Diamond speakers, but I did hear some subs, but back to your question, Ive heard the Pioneers a few times, and they are awesome speakers!!! They can handle way more than their rated 50w RMS, I heard them with about 100-120 watts going to them and the midbass was good, with crisp sound and clear highs!! Overall it was a great component set and I would recommend it to anyone!
