Possible Amp Problem. Any advice welcome.

Basically this gist of my inquiry is: should/could I use old speakers ( that I already have in my car(and still work to my knowledge)) and have the new equipment function fine.

New Equipment:

(1) Pyle PLA2200 2-Channel 1400-Watt Bridgeable Mosfet Amplifier

(1) Boss CX122D 12" Subwoofer 4ohm Voice Coils

Old Equipment:

(1) JL Audio 12 0W4 12" Subwoofer (Which I'm guessing is 200watt RMS by the way it didn't blow when being hooked up with the other speaker I will mention and two other 200watt peak Bolt Torture Tested 12" Subs.) (Not exactly sure if I have the correct Model Number or the idea of the wattage (then again I'm not at home to check..(on vacation at my brothers house in Oklahoma, I live in Michigan.)))

(1) Baja 12" 4Ohm Sub, which was in the same sealed box as the JL only until recently when I obtained two single sealed 12" boxes.

FYI: I did bridge the speaker wires(in attempt to lower the Ohm level of the speakers. They were briefly Double Bridged (bridged one set of speaker wire into two sets, then at the end of the two sets, bridged again to two sets of 12" speakers.(Will provide a diagram if need-be.)))

/begin_BACKSTORY

At the moment I have a (6-8yr old) Legacy 800 Watt Dual Mosfet 4ch Bridgeable Amp (that I'm suspecting to be DC charged) Powering the Old equipment I have (Minus the two Bolt Torture Tested Subwoofers I mentioned being blown.) It sounds fine, But I'm suspecting there is clipping going on because of the obvious "thump" sound it makes when the amp turns on and when turned up, Bass notes that I know very well (having some songs that I've been listening to ever since I could remember the name of the song (6-9yrs approx)) sounding weird. [ex of a song: Dear Momma by Tupac.] The long bass notes Do not sound the same as they do in my Turtle Beach x1 Headphones. If I could explain the difference, I would. When I first started listening to my -now- car stereo I knew the difference from headphones to my cars subwoofers. But now that I'm paying attention to notes that I know very well, I'm almost certain there is quite a bit of distortion going on. Having blown 3 Subwoofers (and a possible fourth (the baja)) I'm beginning to suspect either A: the amp, or B: the head unit.

Head unit: Virtual Reality 3 CD/MP3/WAV/SD/AUX CD player (purchased on clearance from Wal-Mart as a birthday gift from my parents.) One thing that I'm sure could have an effect on the distortion going on is my inability to figure out why I can turn the car off at just the right time (after turning the stereo off) that it will store the song and the runtime of the song. But while running, if I turn the CD Player off it will store it and if turned back on while the car is still running, it will resume playing. Often I turn the car off after turning off the CD player, and come back to the beginning of my song library when starting the car and CD player.

Maybe I'm just not comprehending what exactly is wired, and isn't wired in for my CD player. (Ex: The wire labeled "Panel Light" is not connected to anything, yet the CD player's display is still powered.)

/end_BACKSTORY

If, literally, ANY suggestions at all, as far as replacing the head-unit, wires for it, etc, PLEASE, feel free to post them here. I may not be able to reply that day, or until Monday 7/12/2010.

Thanks in advance.

I would like to iterate that I'm using a STIFF Thick(idk what Gauge) Power wire, and have no idea if that is affecting the power the amp is receiving, but the only time I have had any cut-out from the amp was when it has gone into protection mode(When my first Bolt blew, and when I nearly over powered the JL(oddly enough when my pair of bolts blew the amp did not go into protection, the speakers simply just quit working.)) Or not being hooked up correctly. [ex. Forgetting to put the remote wire back onto the amp before trying to turn it back on lol.] I am capable of obtaining flexible wire of larger gauge than the wire I am using, I'm guessing I have 8gauge wire.

It sounds like there are multiple issues at hand. I suspect that your subs aren't wired correctly (I don't understand what you mean by your description) and your amps 12V+ & ground wires aren't a large enough gauge for your amp.
