Porting Box for Subs

Ok I heard somewhere that if I wanted to port a box for subs (L7) you had to run them at 600 watts rms, Im here asking if thats true or is the full 750 each ok , I plan on running 2 12' L7 off the zx1500.1 amp in a ported box in a Scion Tc, and thanks for everyones help in advance.

some truth to it, the sub can only take so much power mechanicaly. but it will be moving more air with less power. the suspension will loosen up a bit after you break it in but it is a good match.

750 and even slightly more will be just fine.

Whoever told you that is a moron.

Yes, this is true, but not from 600-750rms. If he was feeding them 1k each sealed and wanted to change to ported there would be more debate.

he didn't define what size ported box, it would be significant if you ran it in a crazy large box, also explaining the mechanics of it will only help him further.

ok so the 1500.1 should be ok with the subs ported? I just dont want to blow my subs cause this is my first step up, and do you think they will be loud, plan on starting to go to comps how well do you think those would hold up at comps?

just set the gains correctly, yes and for your first set up it will be loud, but for professional comps you better up your game

What year L7's are you running? I only ask b/c a buddy of mine throws 1k at his single L7 12" and it does just fine in a ported enclosure. But it's the 08' model and their supposedly able to handle more power than previous years.

So I would say your definatley playing it safe with the zx1500 to 2 L7's

I put about 1200 on my 06 L7 12, blew it a few times but what are warranties for if you dont use them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Ported box, never had a problem with mechanical power handling.

im going to be running the 08 model i dont want to get and amp that will blow em, because like i said this is my first set up but if yall know for sure that they will handle more then I will give them more, i work for cc and I dont know if they give us the warranty with accomdations lol i kno that may sound stupid but u never kno...and also wats the sound quality like do they get low low?

they get low and the amp wont blow them. good for a first system
Definatley agree with you on this one.

Although the sub handles the lows with ease, it struggles on the highs if not outfitted in the proper enclosure (as seen with my recent thread). I wouldn't worry one bit about blowing your 2 L7's with only 750 a peice on them. Sound quality isn't the best, but the L7 makes up on that by it's loud factor
