I'm going to be building a box for a BMW 330i. Currently has (2) JL 10wØ's in a small sealed box that are getting around 180rms each and sounds pretty clean, but I want the bass frequency to be lower so...

I want to build a really nice ported box tuned to about 32hz or even possibly try to build a crazy banpass style design like a 6th order or something like that.

Available space is 36x26x16

Does anyone here have any experiance with JL 10wØ's?

If I decide to build a standard slot ported enclosure whould I stay close to the recomended 1.25 cubes per sub, or would you go slightly bigger?

hmmm i sure do.

they like 4th and 6th order bandpass boxes..and u have plenty room for them

i wonder wat 2 10w0's in a shared 3cubes rear ported chamber tuned to 32hz and a front chamber thats 2 cubes tuned to 70hz. or even a shared 1.5 cubes sealed chamber playing into a 2.5 cube ported chamber tuned anywhere from 50-65hz..hmm ideas are brewing in my head

HOT DÄMN!!! that sounds freakin sweet

I woulda never thought of using all of the 5 cubes+ of available space just for (2) 10wØ's. Great Ideas's I'm gonna start researching it.

Why the change of tuning in the front chamber? Better SQ and broader range of bass frequency? Or does it create some sort of harmonic frequency that makes the ears tickle with pleasure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

u dont want a 1 note wonder box...so to broaden the range i choose 70hz

it will help blend in with your midbass

with the space u mentioned u have 8.9 cubes avalable i just used 5-6cubes cubes of it

I think I need to measure the size of the actual trunk hole. I tried loading the box shown below in the BMW and it didn't fit no matter what angle I tried...

3cubes @ 30hz

33 wide x 14 tall x 19.25 deep

I guess I could allways take out the rear seats to load it in too, I'll see how much height I have at the very back of the trunk to determain if taking out the rear seats would help fitting a large box in the trunk or not.

measure in between the wheel wellsand the hieght up to the bottow of the rear deck speakers and the depth from the backseat(measure from the top) to the middle of the spare tire

Between wheel wells: 36"

Height up to rear deck: 16"

Top of back seat to middle of spare tire: 17"

Top of back seat to rear hatch: 26"

This ported box is 2.75 @ 30hz and should probably work as one of the possible choices for a standard ported enclosure for this application...

80inches - Any other idea's on a nice 6th order? I'll get some very accurate measuraments of the trunk hole to figure out the max box size that can fit.

bmw trunks are notorious for being bass traps, port the box thru the ski hatch with all the output, or hang your subs on the rear shelf.

Thats a custom pink pearl clear coat I had added to it.

LOL, just messing.

Those orange lights and silver paint cause that pinkness. Good Idea with porting the bass through the ski pass, but one small problem. There is no hole that actually allows access to the trunk it's solid steel, but nuthing a lil jigsaw work can't fix //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
