Ported Box w/ Slant Back

hey guys. I'm looking at getting a box designed, and I want to get the most space I can out of my trunk... is it viable to build a ported box with a slanted back? Or will that introduce unwanted resonance or somesuch?

Also, how much clearance should be around the box to avoid "choking" off the bass? Or alternatively, can I turn the box around so the subs and port fire into the cabin? Thanks

Would aero-ports allow you to go a little smaller with the box (as in, not having to take into account "port displacement" from a convential slot port?)
Yes. Aero ports use less port area and so they use a smaller length which means more net enclosure volume when compared to a slot port.

Ok great, but will I notice a difference in frequency response? Do aeros have a narrower freq band as opposed to slot ports? I guess I'm asking for the advantages/disadvantages... thank you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

x2 on the freq band. I'm curious.

For a sub box, the port area won't really affect the frequency response by a noticeable amount. This isn't true in enclosures meant for midbass and midrange drivers though as having too much port area will act like a transmission line for higher frequencies. This can happen in a sub box when the volume of air in the port is getting close to or exceeding the net volume of air in the enclosure. That usually requires an overly excessive port and low tuning for a smaller sized enclosure.

The pros and cons between different port types don't really focus much on the actual sound produced. The only exception is that the minimum amount of port area needed before port noise occurs in a flared port is smaller than a non-flared port (this applies to non flared round ports too, like PVC).
