Ported box volume

When building a slot ported box do you count the port area as part of the box volume or is the port completely separate?

Since the port is actually part of the box/internal do you just subtract the "bracing" of the port, or do you create a 1 cubic foot box, then add the WHOLE port including the bracing/area of the port?

You'll want to focus on net volume after port, sub and bracing displacement. I normally have two set dimensions, say height and width, and leave depth open. I figure up what the displacement of my port will be, what the bracing and subs will take up then by multiplying/dividing I can determine how deep the enclosure will need to be to yield the net volume I'm after.

ahhhh..

So just to make sure this is correct.. when I do my calculations, 28HZ is approx 50 inches long (11.5 high x 2.75 width) material 0.75.... so If the main chamber is 2.0, then I need an additional 1.2 just for the port area, so the box would be 3.2 total area including port. (currently not calculating displacement from subs..
