Ported box to small?

Hi I’m just wondering what happened if a subwoofer is put in a too small ported box? I know it recommended for a 1.75 cubic foot box but what would happen if it goes in like a 1.0 cubic foot ported box? How will it affect the sound and will it mess up the subwoofer?

choked sub, that plays only high notes. You literally get zero bass performance like beyond trash. you'll be lucky if you get 10% potential out of the sub.
