Ported box question

Which would be the best to build...one enclosure for two subs using a port or two separate ported enclosures? I want to get the best sound but am leary about having a single box with two speakers in it without a partition.

What do you think?

Looks like this is going to be a personal preference topic. I personally like a single chamber for two subs, and I see that others like separate chambers. I have yet to see any real benefit to having each sub in a separate chamber.
Like I said, the only benefit is if one sub blows, it won't affect the other sub because each sub will see the same volume no matter what. If two subs share a chamber and one blows, the remaining sub will see the entire volume of the box and could be damaged as a result.

extra strength? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

when it comes down to it though. you'll be perfectly fine with a single enclosure. The benefit for having two separate enclosures would be so miniscule, chances are you wouldnt notice a difference.

Nein! The only time this is true is if you're somehow splitting the output power so that you are powering the two subs independently. Basically, unless you're using a 2 channel amp (one channel per sub), you're still gonna cook the other. Reason being, instead of getting its rated RMS in its ideal volume, it's getting double its RMS in its ideal volume. The only difference between that and a single chamber is which will blow first, but in the end, they're both tappin out. Save space, money and weight and do a single chamber.
