Ported box for truck

This new box is going to be ported and should look like the picture below.

The sub is a Rockford P3D212 and this will be my first vented build. Now it will be much easier for me to put the port on the back of the box like in the picture but from what I understand most people put it on the same face as the sub. I'm just wondering on how much (if at all) the port placement on the back of the box opposed to the top will affect the sound.

Subs and port are usually kept on the same plane.

I'd post up some box dimensions and let a more experienced member take a look at them and tell you if you need to make some changes, that first box can be a doozey.

Having good sub/port placement depends on the vehicle. A lot of times having them on different planes works well, and you can test a lot of different positions with the same box. I have my sub forward firing with port to the side(4-door truck with back seat out).

well, the biggest thing, is- how much clearance will there be beyond the box @ the port? firing it back can be beneficial, but if you are firing it at something and don't leave room for it to develop and terminate to it's tuning and flow, then it will hinder the port greatly. believe it or not, i rarely like putting the vent on the same plane, only when it is most convenient for the build. is that a single cab? if so, i would have it firing at the passenger floorboard.

First off, thanks for the quick responses!

There would be about 1 1/2 feet behind the port as it is a super cab. Only thing in the way of the port would be the occasional person sitting back there.
