Ported box for JL 12w7

I currently have this sub in a 1.75 cu ft slot ported box with a jl 500/1 powering it. Can I make a bigger porter box for this sub and still have it sound right? And how should I have the box designed? It's in te back of my ford explorer so it's not in a trunk. Would the sub firing up and the port facing the trunk work?

Theres a guy doing 150+ in a Mazda 3 trunk, he has them in about 3 cubes each on a JL 1000/1 per sub. If you have lots of room in the back, try 2.5 to 3 cubes, 30-34hz tuning, and a nice big port, like 40-45sq in of port area.
