i built a 2.5 cubic feet "L" ported box tuned to about 35 hertz from which dimensions i got from a buddy of mine who has some type of software which calculates build dimensions and plans. something similar to WINISD i believe.
anyways he gave me the dimensions over the phone and when i got to the shop to build the box, i noticed that the dimensions he gave me made the port coming out of the face of the box 4" wide which was the origional understanding that the box was going to have a 4" port. based on the cut dimesnions, the section of the port coming out of the face was 4" wide but the width of the port after the 90 degree turn-(going parallel with the back wall of the box) was only 3" wide. unsure of this, i called him to varify the cuts but he was unavailable so i called a very well known car audio shop here in austin. The tech at Custom Sounds said that the port was supposed to be the same width the whole way through. so i took 1" off the inside port wall-(parallel with the side wall) to make the port after the 90 degree turn 4" wide to match the width of the port facing the speaker box's face.
so was the tech at my local car audio shop correct when he told me that the "L" port is supposed to be the same width all the way through? and if not how much did i negatively affect the box and the tuning by making the port 4" wide the entire way?
thanks, seth
