Port Placement should it be on the same surface as the Woofer

Hi everyone, just have a little confusion on this .Does the port have to be on the same surface as the woofer or can it be on any side of the enclosure so as to enable long ports to be fixed in the enclosure . My enclosure is quite slim on the depth side just around 6" .Any help on this would be great.Thanks

u can make the port on the side and the sub on top. we honestly need more info to help out and or pics

some of the loudest boxes i've ever heard have the subs firing backwards, and the port firing to the side

Since bass notes are not directional you can orient the driver/port in any way you wish.

True, but more so with SPL installs than with SQ/daily installs. A few tenths of a dB or so isn't going to matter unless you compete.

Not to hijack this thread, but this is the perfect thread for my question... Does the port need to be inside the box or can the entire port be located on the outside of the box.

My situation is... Im building a box that fits in the spare tire well of an eclipse spyder. The trunk and passanger area are seperated a little for the top to go down. There is a little section where I can build a port that will run under the top and come up behind that back seat. Is it ok to build a box and have the port go from the box to the back seat of the car?

The problem that you are going to run into with this is that if only the port goes into the and the direct output from the driver itself does not have a path to the interior, you are only going to get a small portion of the output of the sub system and all in all it won't sound right.
